My sudden hearing problem

In July 2023 I went instantly deaf in one ear and to cut a long story short it turns out I have something called SSHL or Sudden Senseroneural Hearing Loss. SSHL is more than just losing your hearing, it’s a crazy debilitating mixture of deadfenss, super hearing sensitivity, ringing in your ears, frequencies getting muddled, inability to discriminate speech, and more! It also turns out to be quite rare and, from what I can gather, not a lot is known about it, and most of the stuff on the internet that you read about is not properly understanding the problem, it’s just people writing about some of the symptoms that occur. So after a few months of this, I’ve decided to research a little bit myself, at least enough to know what will help it and what will make it worse. And I’ve started a website of my journey here: cist.blog

  1. Hi Wayne.
This is SimonTonkin from Cornerstone whom you used to know in 1997.
Sorry to hear of your hearing condition.
Can I throw in a left field comment? I had a Lower back injury to the nerve there, and I could work it with no pain but about 1.5 days later it would flare up in agony. It sounds like a nerve condition to me, perhaps with some inflammation involved. Nerves are really weird things. They do both referred and delayed pain. When I injured a nerve in my arm in healed at 1mm a day, but only so long as I wasn’t reinjuring it. My step daughter has Fibromyalgia and that is NUTS. Also my wife saw a neurologist and found out that the nervous system in the body responds to 5 factors in a system, tiredness, stress, depression, sickness, and physical pain. And ANY one of them can set it off. So I just make the point that nerves can be very weird.
But prolonged rest from all of the above 5 factors can sometimes help.
    Best wishes.
    Simon.
