How to make Credit with Amber energy

We recently got a home battery, and at the moment it seems the best energy deals are with Globird, AGL, or Amber. We went with Amber, and to tell you the truth despite all the hype, it’s hard to break even on electricity usage alone, but one thing that does help are the referral credits you get!

On our last bill we came out $59 refund, mainly due to $80 worth of referral credits!

How to get your own URL to get referral credits.

Any AMBER user can get a code to give out to others to sign up.

If someone signs up using your code, both you and them get $10 off your bill for the next 12 months, a total of $120.

Firstly, you need to sign up yourself.
After you are signed up, go to your ‘settings’ on your Amber app then to ‘Claim my Code’ and you’ll get your own code that you can share. When you click and copy you’ll get a link this this:

That’s the code you need to share to give yourself and others the discount.

It’s a bit long so you can delete everythign after the code, from ?utm onwards

So the link above becomes 4HBHT3XK

How to get your own CODE

If the person has already entered their home address and they are at the ‘promo cade page’ it’s too late to use the link Amber give you, unless you want to ether all your details again. The prompt looks like this.

In this case you need to enter the 8 digit code.

The code comes from the link above, after amber.com.au/ and before the ? so in the example above the code is 4HBHT3XK

How to share your code

This is where you start to make your own credit. You need to share your code in a polite way. Most forums ban the sharing of referral codes. Here are 3 great options to get you started.

1. Reddit referral forums

I got most of my referrals through the reddit thread called ReferralcodesAUS. This is good because it gets picked up by both Google search and by AI.

2. Post on Ozbargain

A great place to post your code is Ozbargain on this thread.

The current ‘Exclusive’ CommBank Yello offer you see is exactly the same discount as the promo codes you get from another Amber user! It’s just $10 of per month for 12 months = $120. In otherwords, it’s a marketing gimmick from CommBank.
You don’t have to be a Commonwealth bank customer to get this deal. There’s nothing exclusive about it!
All it does is shift the other half of the $120 discount from another Amber user to Commbank themselves.
Here when you use someone elses code ot post your own to use, you spread the savings around instead of CommBank getting all the credit (literally!)

Electrolux woes

Well we’ve had our Electrolux oven for 4 weeks and have been waiting for a new door for 3 weeks! It doesn’t close so we need to prop it closed with a chair.

Meanwhile we are still waiting almost 4 weeks for new glass for our Electrolux cooktop that smashed. Electrolux is hopeless for support!!! Should have gone Miele for the oven like we did with our Miele dishwasher (very happy with the Miele)..

Here is the chair holding the oven shut and the missing cooktop.

Altec Lansing speakers BXR1221 – don’t bother.

Lots of reviews say these speakers are pretty good “surprisingly decent sound for their size” and so on… so when they were 75% off at big W for $25 I bought a pair. They sound terrible. Not worth $25.

To me they sound ‘thin, harsh and muddy’.

Miele… very good.

Just got a Miele dishwasher and happy to find out from Miele support that you can use Vinegar instead of rinse-aid if you need to. Our family is sensitive to perfumes and chemicals so this is great news. Nice dishwasher. G4101 or something like that. The bottom of the line. Well designed and built. I like good things.

My recommendations for good things are:
Best washing machine: Fisher and Paykel
Best New or second hand Dishwasher: Miele
Best Computer: Mac
Best Wood Heater: Turbo Ten burning Log (Australian Company)
Best Portable Powered Speakers: Mackie or QSC.
Best general purpose mics for singing: Shure SM58.

The latest issue of Woolworths fresh boasts ‘tasty gluten free recipes’ on the front cover. So I grabbed a copy. The first recipe is on page 55 for gluten free pancakes:

We were recently offered a free Platinum Mastercard for a year with a wonderful free ‘concierge’ service. I’m a sucker. I signed up. I gave them their first go yesterday. I rang and asked if they could please purchase two tickets for me from the Dubbo Regional Theatre on my Mastercard. No can do! What they offered was a three way conversation where they ring the theatre and they tell them what I want then I pay. I said can’t I hang up and they do it for me? I mean, what is a concierge for? I rang and waited for 5 minutes to get a concierge who can ring the theatre, with me on the line, and tell them what I just told them. Crazy. I could have done it myself in less than the 5 minutes I was waiting for the concierge!

BCS- 12 -30 or 45 are good solid chargers.

Supercheap auto sell a charger called calibre. I just bought 6A and 20A versions. The 6A one looks a bit cheap, but the 20A one looks real good.
